Can I hook up extra speaker to stereo?

Have an old stereo with standard left + right speaker terminals, says 6-61 ohm

currently have 6 ohm speakers connected

Have a spare 8 ohm speaker, can I connect it to one channel aswell as the 6 ohm speaker? 6-61 ohm sounds like allot, surely this stereo cannot support a 61 ohm load?
