I am looking at simplifying my home audio. I have got rid of some 23+ year old speakers and receiver as they have not been used for 15 years. I am currently using a 12 year old Marantz SR4200 receiver with 5.1 channel sub/sat speakers. Think the mid-range sound is lacking in this set up and not really suited for music. The subwoofer is starting to sound too boomy for me (maybe due to age!).Now I am looking for bookshelf sized active speakers so that I can plug in various sources directly to these speakers. The speakers should ideally have at least a 5 inch woofer. Think I will may want go back to stereo if the new setup works. The idea is to get rid of as much gear as possible and simplify my audio set up.Currently looking at reviews of the Edifier R2000DB, Edifier S1000DB and the Edifier S2000 Pro. Unfortunately I do not know of any place in Wellington/Hutt area where I can have a demo. Also intrigued by the Kanto Yumi and Kanto YU6. All the above models have a variety of inputs plus bluetooth. Also the JBL LSR305 has good reviews but does not have the flexibility of inputs like the previous models mentioned. Then I saw the Mission LX-2 online. Even though it won some WhatHifi award there has not been that many reviews other than those on Amazon and a couple of other sites. These are passive bookshelf speakers. If these are better than the active ones above, then I may keep the Marantz to drive these. What about the Cambridge Audio Minx XL speakers?Would appreciate opinions from members who have had experience with any of the speakers above or any suggestions of other bookshelf sized speakers that I have not mentioned. Thanks.
