I bought a Marantz SR5008 receiver a few years ago and thought I was future proofed as it had '4K Passthrough'. However, as things have worked out, it now won't actually passthrough all the HDR good stuff. So I've managed to unload it on TradeMe at a decent price and I can get a SR5011 for less than $1,000, as it's already last year's model (SR5012 now available). So I can relatively cheaply upgrade to an equivalent receiver as my old one, but with Dolby Vision, HLG and HDR10 passthrough all supported. Seems like a good result. However, I'm now wondering, could this one be obsolete in another few years as well? I know you have to draw a line in the sand somewhere, otherwise you'll never actually buy any technology, but I don't want to be caught so quickly again if I can help it. Are Dolby Vision, HLG and HDR10 going to cover my bases for 4K HDR viewing for a decent amount of time? Or is there something else coming down the pipes, even as we speak?
