Turn old amp on and off with a remote

I've decided to buy some speakers and bring my old amp out of retirement. It still works well, but doesn't have any sort of remote control, unfortunately.

Ideally, I'd like to be able to programme my Harmony remote (IR) to turn it on and off. The issue with leaving it on all the time is just that it seems to still draw quite a bit of power even when not in use. Our TV cabinet is child proofed in a way that it is a bit of a pain to turn anything on and off manually.

I have a power strip with a master/slave socket, which would have been a good option, except that the TV is now wall mounted, with a separate power socket from the cabinet. This also would mean I couldn't play music with the TV off.

A few years ago, you used to be able to buy plug in power boxes that were controlled by IR. These seem to have disappeared from local stores and been replaced by equivalents with RF remotes.

Anyone have a similar setup that works well?
