After two years of diligent service, my VSX-920 receiver died, and was replaced by Harvey Norman with the VSX-922 (same base model, with slight features update). One of the new features is Airplay, which I took the chance to try out yesterday. The music playback is great, couldn't really fault it. But I was wondering whether it would also playback video over Airplay. I haven't been able to find a way of doing this, and even trusty Google hasn't been able to help here. Is there something obvious that I'm missing, or is it not possible to stream video over Airplay through the AV receiver? After looking at Apple's support info on Airplay, I'm wondering whether I would need an Airplay-enabled TV or an Apple TV to receive the video side of things, and let the AV receiver handle the sound...Also, I had a bit of trouble with the initial setup. I took the opportunity to do a little cable tidying at the same time as setting up the new receiver, and bought some flexi-tube to keep the speaker cables organised, and another tube for the HDMI cables. But when I went to fire it up, there was no video signal coming from the BD player. After a bit of experimenting with different sources, different HDMI ports, and different cables, the problem seemed to be when the HDMI cables (from the BD player to the receiver, and from the receiver to the TV) were touching at a specific point. I checked to make sure it wasn't just a loose port by holding the plug rock-steady, and just moving the cable. I even checked it with several different cables, and it still seemed to happen only when the two cables were touching. I eventually "solved" it by making sure those cables were separated. But it made me wonder about the cause of the problem - do HDMI cables suffer from interference with each other, and why? If they do, then surely this must be a pretty common problem?
