HDMI failures - both TV and receiver within three months!

My approximately six year old LG TV gave up the ghost just before Christmas - the HDMI system failed. As the internal tuner had failed about four years earlier this meant it was no good to me at all, so I replaced it. I figured six years was a pretty good run so didn't bother trying to claim a replacement under CGA.

Fast forward to February and now it's the AV receiver's turn. It's just a shade over four years old and is an entry-level Pioneer unit (VSX-319 or something) that came bundled with a basic 5.1 setup. The HDMI system went from working fine, to patchy, to completely dead over the course of a week or so. It still works fine as an amplifier only but I can't use it as a receiver at all.

The Onkyo HDMI failures were widely discussed on this board but I didn't think this was a wider issue. Have I been incredibly unlucky, or is HDMI circuitry in general - regardless of brand - inherently doomed to early failure? It makes me pretty reluctant to cough up more money for a replacement. I'm especially annoyed about the receiver because, while I kind of jumped at the chance to upgrade the TV, I was perfectly happy with the receiver and really don't need any additional features.

Lastly - would you guys press the case for a CGA replacement for an approximately four year old receiver? Bought from Noel Leeming. I feel like this isn't really acceptable lifespan, but it's getting into borderline territory.
