Hey all, looking for suggestions for a reasonably priced network controllable 2ch amp to use to drive some built-in speakers. Does anyone here know of something that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, and is either Spotify capable, or plays nice with a Chromecast?

Best media player and source for 4K content
I just bought the TH-65EZ950U 65 on the weekend, seems like a stunning TV. Obviously I want to feed 4k Content into it as much as possible.I joined Netflix (I know, late starter hehe) as thought I'd have a go at streaming 4k content... I knew I was being overly hopeful but had my fingers crossed, but no. I live rural and my connections maxes at 5.1mbps *sigh* - The real kicker is 100m down the road can get VDSL which is probably enough according to Netflix specs! So, I'm hesitant to buy a 4k Bluray player as I won't get any change from $500 and will use it less than 10 times if I'm honest. Option 3 and from what I can see the only real option to get 4k content for now is the download. So I maxed out my mighty connection and secured a couple of 4k rips, sprinted to the media room and started to view Passenegers to find them talking in spanish... C'mon guys, surely you are feeling my frustrations by now! Being a little bit clever I managed to find the options and found 3 audio files, Spanish, Ukrainian and Russian. *sigh* - went back to PC and looked at the file, it has 5 audio tracks, French and English DTS. So apparently This $9k TV that has built in HEVC and played the file beautifully dopesn't decode DTS, that most decent HEVC files use for audio. Personally it feels like Panasonic missed a trick here, but a trick I doubt they will fix in an update. I know they have to pay for a licence for each codec so obviously DTS wasn't on special that week.I have 5 media players here none of which do 4K, well one does but its 30fps only (seriously)I've had a quick look around at media players and there is a huge amount of options... I'm hesitant to get a cheap one from aliexpress as their specs can be somewhat interesting to say the least. The new popcornhour only has overseas PSU's and my last attempt at a raspberry pi 3 could net get digital audio out into my amp cleanly. I wouldn't have thought it was a big ask though... I need* clean design and fast loading and simple (rules out HTPC)* Plays 4k nicely, smoothly and HDR support woult be amazing* Wired Lan port (seems to be lacking on most) could possibly do without and just use USB and HDD's* dolby digital and DTS separate audio out.* Nice scraping system Is that really too much to be asking? :| I wouldn't have thought soAlso any other great ideas for 4k content I may have missed?

LG smart TV not connecting with Yamaha RX-840 now?
LG smart TV not connecting with Yamaha RX-840 now?I have a LG 55LA 6230 bought 2013 and I had a problem with an Red Bull app not working contacted LG through their chat, and they advised resetting TV which I did and the app worked. But ever since that time I'm unable to get my Yamaha surround sound working again before all this, it was just pause video play back on LG TV turn on Yamaha on AV1 and it start video again and the surround sound all worked and you could adjust the surround sound via LG remote.I have tried several times to alter sound settings via LG TV with the drop down list HDMI and Optical and nothing works. So when I alter it to play via HDMI or Optical just shows speaker greyed out and no sound so have to revert back to TV sound.Where is the problem occurring with LG or Yamaha any one any idea's?

Samsung KU6000 blur/ghosting issues
Hey. I had to replace my plasma earlier this year and found a good price on this Samsung KU6000 4K TV.I noticed since new, it seems to have a lot of blur in dark scenes or dark on bright text like the pac n save ad for example, the dark colours drag. It's very noticeable in gaming and the only thing that helps is to up the brightness which washes out the picture. If anyone has experience with this line, is this typical of them?Panning across a dark scene in gaming and having the dark colours drag on looks awful. I have messaged Samsung and am waiting on a reply, hopefully they can sort it out.I uploaded a video showing the worst it can get in the game The Last of Us in 4K Mode on the PS4 Pro.This can happen on any input or app. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YB4sWBpCPq8

Quick question on TV xbox and receiver sound connection
Hi guys Ive googled around but havent been able to find a straight answer on this one. I have a Sony TV that has optical out connected to my pioneer receiver. This appears to give me 5.1 from freeview which is good. My question is, my Xbox one is plugged into the tv via HDMI and not directly into the amp so sound goes out the xbox, through the tv and out the optical to amp. Will I get proper surround sound this way or will I need it connected separately to a different channel on amp? Anyone see a problem with it as the price seems quite cheap (at the moment)

OLED TV, which country to buy in?
I am in the position where I may have the option of having an OLED TV purchased for me overseas and brought back freight free (if they are in fact cheaper in these other countries). Obviously GST would still be payable. The candidate countries are in order of convenience are Hong Kong, USA, Australia.I'm thinking a Panasonic 65", and was wondering if anyone in the know could suggest which stores in these countries are likely to have the best pricing? The US Panasonic site doesn't even seem to have a TV section?

Using WHQ monitor for TV picture
Our TV has been taken away for fixing (I hope) and we have no spare.Hooked up my new Dell monitor via HDMI from Skybox and it worked! Well, it worked for an hour then it kept blanking with occasional pic flashes. The input is set to HDMI.Just wondering what is going on. Security handshake missing?? I felt quite proud of myself for a while!Guess I will have to acquire a small TV as I fear our TV might be away for a while.Edit:- would be because the monitor is not HDCP coompliant I guess.

Looking for feedback on a new DAC
Hi,I'm working with an entrepreneur who is developing a new DAC, we are trying to understand if there is a place for his DAC in the market by speaking to audiophiles. We're trying to find out whether or not audiophiles use a DAC.Why they do/don't.DACs that they use and why they chose them, what they like/dislike about them. What they think the most important features are.If anyone is up for a chat I am happy to talk about the DAC that is being developed in as much detail as I am allowed to, perhaps get your thoughts on it and answer any questions you might have.Really appreciate any feedback.

Worth fixing a plasma?
Inlaws have a Panasonic 55" plasma TV, which my nephew (very helpfully) decided to throw a marble at. Unsurprisingly, TV no longer works.I'm wondering whether it's worth getting it looked at, or it's just useful for parts now.

Obtaining a 5.1 speaker set without amp
I have a Sony STR-DH550 that I'm currently using with borrowed speakers and I'm happy with the receiver. The specs are: 145W x 5ch, active sub(s), 6-16 ohm impedance.I'd like to buy some speakers to go with it, for my lounge. Just for normal viewing of TV and movies, I don't plan to shake the house down. Currently I only ever use it on a fraction of the maximum possible power output.I'd like to spend about $300 getting the 5 speakers excluding subwoofer. Some places sell complete blu-ray systems with 5.1 speakers for about my price range, however it seems like a waste to buy the whole system just to chuck out the blu-ray player and sub (since they all have passive sub which is useless to me).On the other hand, places that sell speakers on their own start from $600 for just a pair.I've been unable to find any way to buy just the speakers of a similar quality to what comes with the blu-ray systems. Are there any good options I'm overlooking, or does anyone have further advice?

Good NZ place to buy Blu-rays?
Hi everyone,I've been buying my Blu-rays from Mighty Ape for what seems like an eternity but now I wish to buy from somewhere else. The problem is that I'm not familiar with the market and I'm struggling to find other sellers.JB Hi-Fi and The Warehouse seem to have a very limited selection. There's a "Wow HD" but the prices are very high (and there's a note about the movies being region A so I assume that they're sent from overseas and won't arrive overnight). So what's the best way to get Blu-rays on release date these days? Thanks :)

Building a new house - do I need an antenna?
Hi guys,Currently building a new house, and with the advent of TVNZ live, I'm wondering if not getting an antenna installed at this stage is worth a try? I've had the sparky run coax for future proofing, but given how little actual TV I watch, I was wondering if the live TV offerings from TVNZ/TV3 are viable alternatives?I'll be buying an LG 55" C7 OLED, so would using these websites via WebOS be a pleasant experience or would I be better to go the Chromecast route?

Seems Samsung Smart TV WiFi Chip Has Failed.
Our 26-month-old Samsung Smart TV has suddenly refused to connect to our WiFi and will not show any WiFi networks. Everything else WiFi-related in the house is working fine - including our other 5 year old Samsung Smart TV.I've turned it off, waited, etc.It seems the WiFi chip or whatever in this TV has failed. Is this a possibility or likelihood? If this is correct, I'm not sure how to proceed - it's outside warranty but presumably still within CGA.Would appreciate comments and/or advice.

Veon fault
My new Veon has already developed a fault. It has started briefly flicking off and on at random intervals. It usually goes off for a second or less, occasionally a few seconds. It appears to be a complete power cut. Screen goes completely black and audio ceases. Then it flicks back on and the HDMI notification appears as it does when the set is first powered on. So far this has only happened a few times, very briefly, when browsing the Internet. But it was much, much worse last night while streaming a film. I have also noticed some some screen artefacts. On Geekzone sometimes I see vague dancing green vertical lines at the top of the screen on a dark background. While watching the film there were noticeable sparkles scattered through the image. But the quality was already poor due to my lousy Internet connection. I have no idea if these things are related.Has anyone else with a Veon experienced anything like this?

low cost 4k60 to 1080p60 converters?
I can see heaps of these https://www.aliexpress.com/item/HDMI-to-HDMI-4K-Scaler-amplifier-HDMI-down-upscaler-with-Zoom-aux-audio-3D-1080P-for/32777678761.html which only list 4k30 as an input, but I want it for playstation and xbox so dropping to 30Hz would be a disaster (except for some games with their "cinematic" low frame rates) but am drawing a blank when looking around. Capture device only does 1080p 60Hz and I dont want to be replacing it right now.

Controlling multiple Panasonic devices with Harmony remote
I've just purchased a Panasonic Freeview recorder, but as I also have a Panasonic blu-ray player I'm having issues with them both having the same remote code number, as one remote was trying to control both devices at the same time.I changed the code for the blu-ray player and remote from 1 to 2, so I can control the blu-ray player and the recorder independently with their own remotes, but when I try to control the blu-ray player with my Harmony remote or the app it doesn't work, as I assume the Harmony is still using remote code 1.Does anyone know how to fix this?
