OLED LG C7 vs LG E7 vs Panasonic

I am seriously considering a 65" OLED as a 40th birthday present to myself.

My price range is around the 6K mark. Audio will all be through seperate receiver and smart features will be seldom used - what I am interested in is all aspects of picture quality.

I had been thinking Panasonic, but a unit with a stand that isn't the full width of the TV would work a lot better in my living room - so now I am thinking LG.

LG OLED65C7T is currently about $6300, where the LG OLED65E7T is about $12000. Other than the sound bar and style differences is the C7 just as good? I.e. Is there any difference at all if in picture quality, black levels, motion blur/jutter, reflections, etc?

How does the LG C7 stack up against the new Panasonic OLEDs?

Panasonic TH-49ex600z USB Drive Compatability

Hi all,

I have an interesting problem. I just bought a TH-49ex600z and it supports recording TV. Great. Instructions state to only use USB 2 slot for recording (USB3), And sure enough if you put a USB stick in USB 1 the TV recognises it's there but it will not recognise it for formatting for PVR. OK, Cool, So I've tried 3 USB sticks so far formatted FAT-32 and NTFS, 16 Gig -> 64 gig, TV recognises them and will play videos off them, but when it comes to formatting for recording off the TV all 3 come back as Formattting FailedUSB Device not supported.

I've searched high and low on Panasonics site to see what they requirements for a USB drive is to no avail. The manual does show hooking up a proper External drive (USB Cable -> Drive), But hey a thumb drive is just another USB drive

So given it can playback off the USB thumb drives and I can guarantee one of the thumb drives is indeed USB 3.0 (written on it)What can this TV have against the thumb drive for recording?

Thoughts/Help appriciated. ThanksTerry

HD TV Shootout. Which is the best TV of 2017?

HDTV Test have just completed their 2017 HD TV shootout - with the Panasonic EZ1000, Sony A1, LG B7, Samsung Q9 QLED and Sony ZD9.

https://youtu.be/W8cN-549F4E

Best home theatre TV: Panasonic EZ1000, runner up A1

Best living room TV: Sony A1, runner up EZ1000

Best HDR & gaming: LG B7

Best overall TV: Panasonic EZ1000, runner up B7

For OLED, commentary seems to reflect what reviews I have previously read - Panasonic has slightly better colour accuracy and picture quality, whereas Sony has better video processing and up-scaling.

As for the LCDs, the Samsung QLED scored the best for bright room/anti-reflection, but was nowhere to be seen in any of the other categories, and the Sony ZD9 also failed to get any real traction against the OLEDs.

TV Wireless Audio

I was about to post a wanted ad for a Xbox One S but thought I should confirm a few things first.

I want to setup wireless audio for my TV, Panasonic TH-55DX605U, with only Digital Audio Out. No Headphone jack.

My current options are:

1) Get an XB1 to watch media via the XB1 and use controller for audio.

2) Wireless headphones that would work with digital audio out.

What are your thoughts and recommendations?

Thanks

Hi Guys,

Wishing to downsize the Audio for AV "Smallish House", I decided a Soundbar would be the way to go but I want good sound for Music / and AV. I have a Samsung TV so after looking at what was available in the market Sonos / Bose, Sony etc. and reading online I decided on the Samsung HW-MS650 the 750 that has upward firing speakers doesn't seem to be sold in New Zealand.

Results, really happy great price $719.00 and upgradeable to Wireless Surround SWA-9000S + Wireless Sub SWA-W700 when / hopefully they are bought in.

Nine speakers all each with their own discrete amps plus a DSP to conduct the orchestra.

Anyway just have the HW-MS650 at the moment had its pretty good actually amazing for the price.

if your in the market seriously have a look, defiantly as good as much more expensive options and you can save a few dollars.

Is there a Panasonic UHD TV recall re HDMI issues?

Hi there, I was told recently that there is some sort of extended (out of) warranty recall/replace/credit/something for early Panasonic UHD LCD TVs, due to some issue with HDMI.

Anyone familiar with this, and can share details?

I was told it's related to dodgy HDMI 2.0a, but I wonder if it's actually an HDCP issue. Not sure.

Thanks, any info much appreciated!

Connection problem Bose Solo 5 - LG LED via optical output

Hi there - I have an issue connecting my new Bose Solo 5 soundbar to my tv via optical output. I can get sound through the bar when I directly connect the sky decoder box to the soundbar - however this is for watching sky only. When I wish to watch movies or listen to music from my hard drive (connected via usb) then I can only use the TV speakers. What I want to be able to do ultimately is that anything that is on the TV screen i.e sky, movies, music comes through the soundbar but when I connect the TV to the soundbar directly with the optical cable I get no sound. any ideas?

Cheers Caine

Fuse for Denon AVRX1100W Receiver Display

$

So I've read on various other forums that some Denon AMPs/Receivers have a fuse that needs replacing when the front display stops working. Apparently its a 160Ma fuse that can be just soldered onto the PCB.

Does anyone know where I could get one to fix it myself? Jaycar and PBTech dont stock anything like it. I'd rather avoid service centre fees if I can.

Thanks in advance for any help.

is it April1 already?

IR extender kits

So...TV on one side of the wall and all the amp, Skybox, DVD gubins on the other side in a cupboard so it's all nice and clean. When I set it up a few years ago I purchased a blue eye IR extender / hub kit to allow me to control them all. First one didn't work. Spoke to the guy that sells them by email. They sent another one out and that worked. However, it always looked like someone had knocked them up in his shed and RJ45 plugins that didn't quite fit snugly etc...However all was fine, it worked pretty well, but the IR flashers ( 8 of them) started to fail one at a time. It gave up the ghost a few weeks ago when I had to unplug it while moving some kit and just didn't operate after that. So realising the Mrs wouldn't want to be up and down into the next room every ad break to FF sky I bought an IR extender kit from jaycar - Cat No AR1828. They assured me it works fine with SKYHDI boxes as I knew there had been issues in the past with the new skyboxes not playing nicely with some IR extenders.

It works perfectly with all my kit but is somewhat flaky on the skybox. It almost appeared to be flooding the box with signals so I looked through the one page manual and it did say to take the flasher off the unit and to lay it inside the cabinet instead. That improved the situation somewhat but it still can be a bit patchy. Signals often appear to be repeated so pressing back whilst in the planner / tv series will take you back into firstly the main menu then up into one of the sub menus. Pressing record will highlight the programme for recording with the little R symbol then it will disappear thinking it's been pressed a 2nd time to cancel etc. It can also just be slow / non responding and buttons can be mashed without anything happening onscreen...

What do people out there in the community use for the above situation ? Has blueye come on with their products or are there comparable things out there? Also, any ideas why the 'cheap' IR extender from jaycar works well with all my kit but just not the skybox

Thanks

Suggestion for small IR Receiver for Raspberry Pi 2 / Kodi

I need a small, discrete USB IR receiver for my R.Pi2 running Kodi in my lounge. Is something like this the kind of thing I need? It looks like it receives IR, sends it via USB to the R.Pi, and also re-sends it via IR as a repeater. Seems too cheap...

My son loves to grab this in one I current have in the TV cabinet. I use a Harmony remote so just need the receiver.

Samsung TV intermitantly doesn't respond to remote

So bit of an odd one, ever since day one our TV (55KU6000) will occasionally become unresponsive to the TV remote except for the Channel and Volume rocker buttons (the ones that go up/down). This usually happens when flicking around freeview channels. As an aside the Freeview Ondemand App that appears onscreen when switching to 1,2 or 3 will also occasionally not pop up on screen immediately after flicking channels (this, I think ties in with the unresponsive remote.. I'm not 100% certain because I don't watch TV, the Mrs does and getting her to troubleshoot tech things isn't worth the agro)

One resolution I've figured out when the remote isn't responding is to change channels and this seems to fix the problem.

I'm guessing it's the OS being a slow or getting hung up trying to load the Ondemand App in the background?

Best Roku setup in NZ

Hi Geekers,

I received my Roku Ultra from Amazon! Only two weeks shipping!

I set up an account using NZ details but I cannot any apps using the roku app browser. Also can't do voice search for some reason.

1. What was the best way to set up a roku account?

2. What is your current app library look like, plex, netflix. any that you recommend?

3. The best way to stream media from an online server? plex can be a bit expensive using an online cloud based solution since it requires more processing power to handle the streams.

4. Is there a way to add a online network location using http?

Thanks

Samsung F6400 showing negative picture

Turned it on this evening to find the picture is negative :( The screen is bright white with the colours either bright magenta, lime green or yellow.

I had a right old battle with my insurance company over a replacement tv about 10 years ago, I hope this wont turn out the same way. It's only 2 years old but everything I find on the web says the tv is replaced.

I wonder what the equivalent tv is these days. We dont use any smart features, have never watched 3D, just want a good picture with both Sky and an AppleTV.

We were without a tv for two weeks last time and we are having friends over for election night, so I might have to buy something tomorrow and just sell any replacement we are offered.

Long time Samsung AV buyer but have had enough.

First our bedroom LED TV developed a fine bright red line across the screen. Then our big screen in the lounge developed a fine yellow vertical line. Now our newer LED in the family room has today developed a 100mm wide ‘shadow' across the screen, slightly above the centreline. Subtle but noticeable.

The first 2 issues are on TV's approaching 10 years old so I guess I can't really complain, other than they are only used occasionally. The latest shadow issue is on a 5 year old LED, a fairly good one (or at least it was). My Google-fu seems to indicate that this is either an LED or driver problem. Any clues if it's worth fixing or do we need to go shopping? I will ring Samsung And have a crack at a CGA claim but not expecting they will wear it without a battle.

Fatso closing - Sky want you to use Neon instead

just saw this advising fatso will be closing

FAQ on the subject

Bit sad about this.In reality the fatso service might have broken even at best but with the disappearance of the local rental stores its getting harder to rent blurays.

I might be wrong but its the only offering where you can pay x amount and more or less expect to get new releases for a fixed price.I don't think there is a digital offering for that. Sure movies might be cheaper to rent via streaming services but its a pain to find a "bargain" and even then its a mixed bag what quality it is (SD, HD, 4K, or even surround sound, etc).

If anything I am unlikely to use Neon but will instead end up with a Netflix/Amazon combination.

That was lucky! My 2007 HDMI in-wall cable works with 4k!!

I have a projector room built in 2007 with my new house.

Electrician installed a 10 meter in-wall standard HDMI cable for my 1080p projector... (for some reason he does not believe in using conduit, should be sacked really).

I'm upgrading to a 4k projector but thought it likely i would need to upgrade the in wall cable-- and there is little chance of pulling a 10 meter cable with 2 90 degree bends.

Did some research, there are just two types of HDMI , Standard HDMI (the original cable standard), and high speed HDMI (bought out around 2011'ish so after my build).

There is no difference between the cables other than high speed has more bandwidth for 4k .

Just to see if I really needed to upgrade the cable, I did a quick test and hooked up the projector standard hdmi cable to my 4k pc display, and it worked just fine!

Excellent....dodged a 'hack up my movie room' bullet!!
